ZotFighter

A 2D fighting game with no combos. Win the game with proper spacing and pressure strings.

A simple button fighting game with no command inputs and a focus on spacing and footsies. A project during my time in UCI Video Game Development Club. Worked with a team on a relatively new project as past code was planned to be reworked heavily from the ground up.

I personally: 

  • Designed footsie interactions and adjusted spacing of characters.
  • Designed the rules for our game and suggested art and game feel elements.
  • Created a full suite of card designs for the game and maintained them via spreadsheet.
  • Did prototype artwork to help test and move the game forward at an early stage.
  • Lots of playtesting.
  • Designed movesets and stats for all characters.

I worked with a lot of talented programmers and artists to bring this project to life in a relatively short amount of time. I have regrets with how I did the tutorial and teaching aspect, but it was a great experience implementing fighting-game specific elements that I was already very familiar with. I took a great deal of time testing and fine tuning interactions to balance each character’s reach with their special abilities and archetype.
