A 2D platformer made with an asset I found. Short one screen levels designed to be reversible.
Alys is made from an platformer movement asset I found. The movement mechanics are based heavily around Celeste. I designed the entire game to be a series of one screen platforming puzzles that gradient in difficulty as you go up. There are three levels, with the lowest level being the easiest. The levels are also designed to be harder when traversing them backwards.
All the levels were also designed to be played in reverse. Completing levels backwards is the challenge mode to overcome once a player has mastery over the levels generally. There are collectibles only obtainable by playing through each of the three levels in reverse. Once all collectibles are collected the true ending is unlocked.
All three levels are fully connected.
I personally:
Alys was made entirely through Godot and GDScript. It was a departure from what I was mainly focused on, which was 3D world design and strategy turn-based mechanics. I learned a lot of pure design with this project as I used entirely premade assets and tried to only do light scripting. This project ended up taking about a year.
Alys is a personal project to teach myself better 2D platformer level design and level design in general.
