A 2D platformer for the Gameboy where you swap between two dimensions.
Ancients of New York was developed entirely in Unity by myself and one other person, who handled most of the scripting. I focused on design and art, done through Aseprite. It was an incredibly challenging time limit to meet, but I am most proud of the art and visual feel of this project.
I personally:
In terms of design, there are so many things I would change for the level design and enemy design. Many level segments were designed to be hard and require mastery of the layout and the dimension flipping mechanic in order to progress; however, there is a lack of tutorial and lead up to the harder parts and the chasing enemy was not incorporated into the main level sequence as well as I would have liked. I believe this was a lack of planning on my part, and not fully understanding why or how I could utilize an enemy to generate push and pull and guide the player. Instead the enemy was more of an annoyance that didn’t synergize with the dimension flipping mechanic.
