Cooking With Cain

A 2D game about making your way past hellish food with cooking prowess. I came on midway through the project as a designer.

An RPG game where you cast spells by combining ingredients! Another project I worked on during VGDC at UCI. I came onto the project midway through and worked with existing code and levels.

I personally: 

  • Designed 2D top-down traversable levels with secrets and puzzles
  • Designed new enemies
  • Designed new ingredients and enemy interactions

This was the first time I aligned myself with an existing project’s vision. It was exciting to hear what ideas were already present in the game and what direction the team wanted to head into. The producer of the project left a notable impact on my views on teamwork, communication, and project management. I learned a lot about overall project management and scope creep from being on this project. The project lead producer was a large influence in my current understanding of project management and communication.

There is a lot I would redesign, for example the levels. In retrospect I question the need for the levels to even allow the player free 2D movement, the mechanics could have been better served traversal mechanics similar to Darkest Dungeon and similar games.
